Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Hoag Hospital Foundation is seeking a dynamic and creative writer to join our team. The Foundation Manager of Communications will play a pivotal part in our philanthropic efforts, raising over $100M annually, by captivating audiences with compelling stories and messaging. You will collaborate closely with fundraisers, clinical and program leaders, and volunteer and hospital leadership to articulate our mission, engage donors, and drive support for initiatives that advance health care excellence at Hoag.

Responsibilities:

  • Craft Compelling Narratives: Develop stories that showcase the impact of philanthropic support on Hoag's mission and initiatives. From grateful patient stories to innovative breakthroughs, your writing will inspire generosity and deepen donor engagement.
  • Content Creation: Produce a wide range of content, including impact reports, case statements, special event collateral, proposals, newsletters, advertisements, marketing materials, experiential activation messaging, and digital content for various platforms. Your creativity and ability to tailor messaging to different audiences will drive donor interest and loyalty.
  • Collaboration & Strategy: Collaborate with colleagues across departments to gather compelling stories and insights that resonate with donors and inspire giving.
  • Project Management: Use Work Front platform to organize and manage projects and collaborate with colleagues. 
  • Research and Interview: Conduct research and interviews with patients, donors, volunteers, and staff to gather firsthand accounts and testimonials that illustrate the impact of philanthropy.
  • Maintain Brand Voice and Messaging: Uphold the Foundation’s brand voice and messaging guidelines, ensuring consistency and authenticity across all channels.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or related field.
  • 5+ years as a writer and content creator in fundraising, nonprofit, hospitality, health care, luxury consumerism, public relations, or related field.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Strategic and creative thinker.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Professionalism and diplomacy to work effectively with internal and external constituents, including prospects, donors, colleagues, and high-profile community members.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for philanthropy and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
