WRITER

The Marketing Specialist Sr. (Writer) is responsible for a wide variety of print and electronic communications for the Hoag Hospital Foundation (HHF)—from developing the concept to managing production to delivering the finished product. He or she will handle complex assignments requiring significant originality, flexibility and strategic thinking. Candidate must possess exceptionally high-quality communication skills and produce persuasive content that supports the Foundation’s objectives; advances Hoag’s mission by informing and engaging our audiences; builds and maintains a working knowledge of HHF’s fundraising priorities and establishes himself/herself as a valuable resource and partner to a variety of key stakeholders; works closely and collaboratively with all departments and senior leadership within HHF and the Hoag Corporate Communications team. This position reports to the Executive Director, Communications.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Provide strategic and creative direction to HHF and Hoag colleagues during the project planning stage
  • Research, including conducting interviews, write, edit and proof HHF external and internal communications including, but not limited to, proposals, web copy, collaterals, emails, video scripts, donor stories, letters, promotional materials, reports, brochures, direct mail pieces, invitations, social media content, speeches and event scripts
  • Inform and engage key stakeholders including existing and potential donors, volunteers, Hoag physicians and staff and Hoag Hospital Foundation staff via a variety of communications vehicles
  • Responsible for project management of assignments including collaborating with HHF colleagues as well as outside designers, printers and programmers to create high-impact materials from concept to finished product
  • Initiate and lead projects within the larger communications team that support fundraising priorities
  • Meet frequently with Development staff to proactively identify communication strategies for key initiatives

 

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree; 5+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations/stewardship or related field; Experience planning and implementing programs and leading and managing staff; Demonstrated strategic and creative thinking; Professionalism and diplomacy to work effectively with internal and external constituents.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in a healthcare advancement setting, particularly with high-level stewardship or client relations.
  • 7+ years of professional writing/strategic communications experience specific to health care; a comprehensive multimedia skillset including graphic design, as well as digital content creation experience.
