Job Description:

The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for direct patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment. Manage pre admission reports retrieval and chart preparation for patient screening by licensed personnel. Pre admission communication with patients to assist them in preparing for their procedure.


Essential Functions:

  • Provides for ADL, comfort, nutrition and hygiene needs.
  • Takes and records clinical measurements, collects specimens, provides transportation and maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in collecting coordinating pre surgical/ pre admission patient information 
  • Clinical Care: Ensure patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate population as outlined in the job description and competencies
  • Pre Admission Screening Coordination – collect all necessary labs, EKG’s and other reports per pre admission testing protocol. File reports into charts and report any outliers to RN and/or MD for review and further orders. Communicate any changes in patient preparedness to RN
  • Pre op communication with all patients – patient calls the day prior to surgery to review check in times and pre operative instructions. 
  • Assist in coordination of patient care with nursing staff and physicians
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education, Training and Experience


Required: Completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant program, completion of first semester of RN program or equivalency to be determined by Department Director. BLS certification.

Preferred: High school graduate preferred. Recent employment as a Nursing Assistant preferred.


Skills or Other Qualifications


Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.
