Patient Transporter - Support Services (SCT)

The Support Services department ensures timely and efficient transportation of patients and materials internally throughout the hospitals and assigned locations, communications for services for but not limited to Environmental (EVS) and Engineering Services. Another supporting assistance is provided at varying levels based on the career category they fall in as outlined below. Patient Transporter (Pt Transporter) Under the direct supervision of the Support Services Manager, Supervisor, and Lead, this position will perform according to established procedures a variety of Patient Transporter duties to maintain a high quality of service that meets and exceeds the hospital/company code of conduct.

 

Patient Transporter Primary Responsibilities:

1. Transport Patients & Materials throughout the hospital

2. Complete Shift Prep by rounding the floors & completing downtime duties

3. Assists with training new hire Pt. Transporters

 

Essential Functions:

  • In addition to the listed core requirements and responsibilities, each employee is individually responsible for proactively taking appropriate actions to assure the best possible outcomes for Hoag Hospital and its affiliates.
  • The position is of a service nature dedicated to the prompt, courteous, and efficient response for support service’s needs.
  • Prepares the hospital for the most efficient through-put process by staging floors and work areas with the necessary equipment such as oxygen tanks, slider boards, ensuring holding areas for wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds are stocked and clean.
  • Other duties such as assisting EVS to provide support in the through-put process and ultimately reduce wait times for patients requiring transport for admission.
  • Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
  • Participates in the continuous quality improvement process.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.
  • This knowledge may include the use of specialized equipment, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance.
  • Position may require participating in meetings or events outside of normal business hours including evenings and/or weekends.
  • May be required to assist environmental services duties for the needs of the hospital (which may include trash, carpet care, floor care, patient room discharges, and projects).
  • Able to provide excellent customer service in a first-impression, fast-paced environment through email, telephone, and in person.
  • Expected to maintain adequate patient flow according to departmental recommendations
  • Responsible for – knowledge of the content of all department meetings and organizational communications.
  • Promotes and demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal and interdisciplinary skills and relationships, maintaining professional conduct at all times, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by adherence to departmental and company annual training commitments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training, and Experience:

 

  • Required: Ability to read, speak, understand, and follow written and verbal directions in English with a basic range of comprehension sufficient for understanding job-specific forms, documents, signs, symbols, and written instructions. Recognizes and comprehends emergency and urgent situations and is able to react and communicate so others understand. Ability to work well with others, follow instructions, and schedule flexibility due to the needs of the hospital. To perform duties of SS Tech must also demonstrate computer skills in utilizing the various software of the workstation.
  • Preferred: High School graduate or GED. Previous Call Center, Dispatch, and/or Patient Transport experience desirable. Basic Math Skills and knowledge of the 24 hour time system

 

Skills or Other Qualifications:

 

  • Required Excellent communication skills; customer-focused; excellent attention to detail; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment. Knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and push heavy objects for long periods of time. Must be able to use applicable technology in order to effectively track and maintain hospital transport & dispatch standards. Maintain an understanding of the healthcare environment and the impact on their position, department, and organization. Demonstrate an understanding of products and services for business line and industry

 

License and Certifications:

 

  • Required: BLS certification required prior to completion of department orientation. May be required: Valid California driver’s license required for those who are authorized to operate Hoag vehicles.
