PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT - PATHOLOGY

Salary Range: $50.09 - $77.03 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Pathologists’ Assistant I (PA) works under the Pathologists’ supervision, in the non-diagnostic areas of surgical pathology. Non-diagnostic duties for anatomical pathology consist of, but are not limited to: external examination, evisceration, dissection, tissue selection, and tissue banking. Such non-diagnostic duties for surgical pathology consist of, but are not limited to: prosection, tissue selection, tissue banking and quality assurance. Obtains pertinent clinical information and history, including scans, x-rays, laboratory data, tumor triage, etc. Maintains clean, well-organized, and properly stocked work areas.

 

Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the laboratory mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation, quality control requirements, and preventative maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • Baccalaureate Degree in medical laboratory technology or related science preferred.
  • Previous experience as a PA preferred.
  • Completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program for Pathologist Assistant, certification by ASCP preferred
