Primary Duties and Responsibilities

These generalist Major Gifts Officers will be responsible for understanding the core fundraising opportunities across all Institutes and key areas within the hospital and will be able to effectively partner with constituent Development Officers to achieve the objectives of Hoag Hospital Foundation. They will be adept at exploring prospect/donor interests and helping to identify those areas within the organization that will lead to the highest level of donor engagement.

 

The ideal candidates are nimble, creative, and collaborative and will pursue an integrated approach to their portfolio. Through a strategy based in high phone call volume, internal collaboration and strategic moves management design, Major Gifts Officers will pursue key performance metrics including qualification, meaningful contacts, solicitations and collaborative visits.

 

Major Gift Officers are primarily responsible for identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts ($100K+) to benefit Hoag and our clinical Institutes.  Using multiple sources including research, volunteer-referrals, annual giving data, physician referrals and existing donor database, Major Gift Officers will focus on pipeline development of major gift prospects.

 

Through face-to-face visits with potential prospects, Major Gift Officers will determine interest areas within Hoag and collaborate with Foundation colleagues to develop and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies. Officers will conduct a minimum of 15 meaningful contacts each month with prospects and donors guiding them through the cultivation cycle and eventually to solicitation.  Officers will maintain a major gift prospect portfolio of approximately 75-100 prospects/donors.

 

In addition, the Officers will serve as Foundation liaisons to hospital staff, community volunteers, medical leadership and clinicians associated with assigned Hoag fundraising initiatives and emerging areas. Working collaboratively with colleagues, Major Gifts Officers will play leadership roles in identifying, qualifying and cultivating new major gift prospects. 

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Nursing or Business Required.. 3-5 years of professional fundraising, marketing, customer service, sales or related industry experience. This position requires a high level of professionalism, maturity, and a keen understanding of philanthropy and philanthropic practices.  Also, of high importance is the ability to work well with people of wealth and means (donors, volunteers, etc.).  The ideal candidates will have some experience with major donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and fulfillment.
