Job Description:

The MRI Technologist projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct and support the Radiology Department mission. They participate in the continuous quality improvement process while maintaining a working knowledge and following all departmental and organizational policies and procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation and quality control requirements, as well as specific regulatory requirements of Title 22, California Licensing & Certification of Health Facilities and Title 17, California Radiation Control Regulations. Performs other duties as assigned that do not violate laws or regulations that require personnel with special licensure.

 

 Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of the Technical Supervisor and Radiologist performs all MRI procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Displays proficiency in advanced complicated exams and participates in research protocols.
  • The technologist performs advanced complicated and research exams with no supervision.
  • Coordinates training of new technologists and ensures patient throughput.
  • The technologist evaluates the scans for technical quality and makes corrections to optimize the procedures.
  • Call responsibility.

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

Required: All MRI technologists must graduate from an AMA approved Radiological Technology program. A minimum of 5 years continuous MRI experience.

 

Skills or Other Qualifications

 

Required: Good interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control. Ability to follow instructions and demonstrate clinical proficiency specific to age of population served. Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, gross pathology, medical terminology and radiologic patient positioning. Demonstrates competency and proficiency in all MRI examinations. Must be proficient in the use of all MRI equipment, hospital information system (Affinity), the radiology information system (RIS) and PACS. Must document all equipment malfunctions appropriately. Performs service recovery as appropriate. Demonstrates competency, proficiency and ability to assist in training in advanced procedures where applicable. Able to assist in the training of new personnel as required. Demonstrates competency, proficiency and ability to assist in training on advanced applications where applicable. Assists in the collection of quality assurance and quality control documentation and the processing of departmental supply orders. Performs patient flow coordinator duties as assigned.

 

License and Certifications

Required: American Heart Association BLS Certification. State of California Radiologic Technologist License. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (MR) Certification
