As a valuable member of the Acute Rehab Department team at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you’ll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, supporting the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Nurse Manager of the Acute Rehabilitation Center means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us.

 

Inside Hoag’s Acute Rehab Department

Our new, state of the art Acute Rehab center serves adults and seniors with rehabilitation diagnoses and associated deficits. As the Nurse Manager of the Acute Rehabilitation Center, you will be responsible for overseeing the twenty-four (24) hour operation of the department with accountability for overall fiscal performance and development of related services. You will work in conjunction with the department therapy manager to ensure seamless care for Acute Rehabilitation patients. As Nurse Manager, you will ensure quality nursing and patient care is delivered to all patients on the unit with professional and regulatory standard, and the philosophy and goals of the hospital.

Other duties include:

  • Identifying and providing necessary staff education and orientation.
  • Meeting patient expectations as demonstrated by patient satisfaction data.
  • Complying with all patient safety goals of the organization.
  • On occasion, meeting and rounding outside of normal business hours including evenings/nights and/or weekends.
  • Providing support and direction for staff in supporting and understanding organizational and healthcare changes.
  • Evaluating staff in accordance with performance expectations and mutually establishes goals.
  • Assuring that nursing and ancillary staff are following policy, procedures, and scope of practice.
  • Ensuring that patient care is delivered, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrating the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate for the population as outlined in the job description and competencies.
  • Developing and improving programs, policies, procedures, and standards of care to ensure patient’s nursing care needs are assessed, evaluated, and met.
  • Working collaboratively with the therapy manager to ensure that seamless patient care is delivered on the unit.
  • Ensuring that quality patient care is delivered to all patients on a 24-hour basis, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag.
  • Completing mandatory stroke specific requirements for certification.
  • Demonstrating competency in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) scoring.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining a budget and effectively overseeing payroll and non-payroll expenses.

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Active, current California RN License.
  • BLS certification must be completed prior to Hospital orientation.
  • 3 years’ experience in an acute rehabilitation setting.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods involved in education, orientation, evaluations, and supervision. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability and willingness to lead by example.
  • Demonstrate ability in problem solving, decision making, strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, concepts of business growth, marketing and communication.
  • Must exhibit coaching and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Possess analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data relevant to patient care and nursing problems.
  • Able to demonstrate interpersonal and problem solving skills necessary to interact with patients, families, physicians and co-workers.

 

Preferred

  • 2 years of previous supervisory experience.
  • CRRN (Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse).
