As a valuable member of the team at Hoag Medical Group (HMG), you’ll provide direct outpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act. Being an HMG Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) means serving our community by engaging in research and education, implementing innovative technologies, and using evidence-based best practices as a standard of care.

Our patients benefit from same-day appointments and extended hours, along with access to Hoag Urgent Care Centers and our highly skilled Care Management team. They are culturally diverse, ranging from young adults to seniors, suffering from a range of conditions that require collaboration with a multidisciplinary team across the continuum of care. Under the direction of a Clinic Nurse (RN) and Site Supervisor (Manager), you’ll be instrumental in not only delivering care, but also assisting in care planning, implementation and evaluation.

 

Other duties may include:

  • Initiating IV therapy.
  • Demonstrating skill in the use of equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures and practices.
  • Responding to emergency situations.
  • Following Standard Precautions, and specific isolation precautions for the prevention and spread of blood-born pathogens and other communicable diseases.
  • Assessing patient educational ability, incorporating available educational material into patient/significant other teaching, and documenting understanding in the patient record.
  • Providing ongoing assessment of the nutritional status for the patient, implementing dietary consultation when indicated to provide/maintain adequate nutritional intake, and communicating nutritional needs/problems to the physician.
  • Maintaining department equipment, charting patient records, and completing accurate record keeping of quality measures.

To that end, we’ll expect you to participate in our continuous quality improvement process and maintain a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures.

Required

  • Current Vocational Nurse license from the State of California.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to type at least 35 WPM.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, customer focus, and attention to detail. Able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Good interpersonal skills, and capable of working in a team environment.

 

Preferred

  • One (1) or more years of experience in an acute care facility.
  • Familiarity with registration and order entry systems.
  • Experience with patient scheduling and insurance verification and authorization.
