Job Description:

  • Responsible for care the, cleaning, handling and reprocessing of surgical instruments and equipment. Knowledgeable of instrumentation blood and body fluid precautions, disinfections techniques and methods of sterilization.
  • Takes inventory, orders and stocks supplies within the department.
  • Is responsible for indirect nursing care of patients as related to instrumentation for neonate, child, and adolescent, adult and geriatric.

 

Lead Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist Supervisor/Manager in assigning priority to all tasks.
  • Assist Supervisor/Manager with orientations and monitors staff practices following established hospital policies and procedures.
  • Conducts shift reports at change of shifts.
  • Assists Supervisor/Manager with input concerning staff evaluations, disciplinary action and promotions.
  • Has the authority to change daily work assignments as circumstances dictate to better serve the departments needs.
  • Serves as department resource person to O.R. Management Team.
  • Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.
  • Participates in the continuous quality improvement process.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports Hoag Hospital’s, Perioperative Services and unit mission

 

Education, Training, or Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of surgical terminology.
  • 2 Years experience in Sterile Processing and Case Cart pulling practices.

 

Skills or Other Qualifications Required:

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, cooperative and able to follow instructions and additional skills and knowledge of equipment and instrumentation may be required.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow standards for equipment operation and evaluate outcome.
