Newport Irvine Surgical Specialists is recruiting a highly skilled and personable colorectal surgeon with IBD expertise to join a U.S. News & World Report nationally ranked program based in Newport Beach, California. The candidate will join an established team of surgeons, including three colorectal specialists, and PAs whose group has covered Hoag Memorial Hospital since 2012.

Newport Irvine Surgical Specialists is a multi-specialty surgical group that has brought eleven premier Board-Certified surgeons together in one practice. The physicians of NISS are highly trained surgeons who are continually advancing with medicine, using the latest innovations in surgical care such as robotic and minimally invasive surgery. The Hoag Margolis Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program is a multidisciplinary program that is directed by an IBD-trained gastroenterologist and includes a dietician, nurse navigator, and excellent ancillary services including GI/IBD-experienced pathologists and radiologists. The IBD Program serves as a quickly-growing referral center for 15 hospital-affiliated gastroenterologists, is involved in several clinical trials and was selected as a site for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s national IBD Qorus quality collaborative.

Hoag is proud to be ranked #38 nationally in Gastroenterology and GI Surgery by U.S. News & World Report and offers comprehensive digestive health services in Colorectal, Liver, Pancreas, Esophagus and Stomach and IBD. Hoag has the largest cancer program in Orange County and houses the largest robotics program in the Western US with eight DaVinci Xi systems and one SP system.


Position Details
• Full-Time opportunity in Newport Beach, CA and Irvine, CA
• Hybrid private setting within both clinic and surgical - Hospital call to support colorectal patients
• Responsibilities will include all aspects of colorectal surgery with an emphasis on IBD, Average 8-10 surgical cases per month (IBD and advanced cases).
• Collaboratively to help grow Hoag Hospital’s comprehensive IBD program for Orange County. Research and participation in case conferences are highly encouraged
• Successful candidates must have experience and expertise in the full spectrum of colorectal surgery diseases, as well as general surgery diseases.
• Excellent communication skills and interest in working in a collaborative / team-oriented environment are a must.


• Must have or be eligible for California State medical licensure
• Doctor of Medicine degree
• Completed an ACGME accredited General Surgery residency program as well as a Colorectal Surgery fellowship
• Must have seven years of clinical experience after completion of fellowship residency preferred, however new graduates with exceptional credentials and references will be strongly considered.
• Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery with advanced laparoscopic and/or robotic skills and an interest in IBD and complex colorectal surgery.
