Salary Range: $27.8800 - $42.9000 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Hyperbaric Technologist Certified administers hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy to patients as prescribed by the Physician and under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse (RN). This role prepares the patient for HBO treatment and assists patient with transfer into equipment. Monitors and operates controls to pressurize and depressurize the chamber according to policy and physician order. Collects various data and reports to nursing team. Documents required elements of treatment. Assesses data and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings. Educates patients on hyperbaric therapy and assists with basic support care including ADL’s, mobility, transfers, hygiene, and toileting.

This role is responsible for ensuring safety requirements are always met and facility is compliant with licensing and regulatory agency standards. Maintains and cleans the hyperbaric chamber and equipment in compliance with standards and regulations. Performs blood glucose checks according to policy and physician order. Ensures Safety procedures are followed per regulatory guidelines. Staff training and competencies per policy.  Performs Quarterly Emergency Drills. Provides guidance to others in the department as needed.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • Satisfactory completion of National Board Diving Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course required.
  • Satisfactory completion of competence skill checklist within 30 days of hire required.
  • Satisfactory completion of HBO Basic Safety Course required.
  • Knowledge/experience in HBO therapy, clinical indications, and treatment protocols required. Knowledge/experience with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommendations regarding hyperbaric chambers.
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

 

Certifications Required

  • BLS
  • Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT)
  • Limited Phlebotomy Technician (LPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Tech (CPT) from California Department of Public Health required within six months of hire.
