As Food Server II (FSII) for Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you will be responsible for collaborating with Hoag kitchen staff to give medical teams and patients the nourishment they need to heal and be healed. Being a Hoag Food Server means working with and cleaning food service equipment, maintaining sanitary conditions to exceed Health Department standards, and caring for your customers with prompt service and a winning smile. You’ll be an important part of what helps Hoag support the patients who depend on us.

 

Inside Hoag Food Services

Food Server II's at Hoag are responsible for handling every aspect of food preparation and service in a host of settings; ranging from our busy hospital cafeteria, to catering events, and meals delivered directly to our patient’s rooms. Customer service is crucial – not just for the patients and staff you will serve, but also in working with vendors, managers, and other support staff.

Your primary duties will be to prepare, portion, serve, and transport food to service areas, catering, busing dishes, storing and issuing supplies, and cashiering. Work assignments may include the dish room, retail areas, production or catering performing tasks such as general clean-up, dish washing, tray-line, and trash removal. You may also be called upon to travel between various Hoag locations and affiliates.

 

Other duties may include:

  • Preventing food waste, and properly maintaining and sanitizing equipment and work areas.
  • Maintaining informed communication by utilizing all forms of technology Hoag offers including email, the Hoag intranet, posted communication, etc.
  • Practicing sanitary food handling techniques and maintaining safe, cleanly conditions in storage areas according to established policy and procedure.
  • Using only equipment in which competency has been achieved.
  • Applying Lock Out/Tag Out system to equipment, and reporting “near misses”, potential dangerous situations, and actual errors to supervisors.
  • Adhering to daily, weekly, monthly schedule for cleaning equipment.
  • Adhering to Health Department, Title 22, and JCAHO standards, e.g. labeling and dating all foods, storing raw meat and poultry on bottom shelf and never over cooked product, or food/product stored on floor.
  • Setting up catering tables, event room, or site location and serving customers by replenishing foods, beverages, and supplies and clearing dirty dishes and utensils throughout the event.
  • Maintaining cafeteria stations, ensuring they are stocked with required foods and with appropriate signage and merchandising materials.
  • Reviewing menus and inventory to plan food issues and distributing food supplies daily to cooks, kitchen area, and cafeteria.
  • Being attentive to customers and giving prompt, courteous service.
  • Keeping supervisor informed when problems may interfere with work being completed or customer issues.
  • Responding appropriately to inquiries and complaints from customers.

Required

  • Ability to speak, read and follow verbal directions in English.
  • Capability to work well with a team and perform a variety of tasks under supervision.

 

Preferred

  • Previous customer and/or food service experience.
  • Ability to perform simple calculations by hand or with use of a calculator.
  • Ability to delegate duties and maintain efficient standards of operation.
  • Servsafe® certification.
