Job Summary

  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Organization’s strategic and financial planning for operating and capital, while ensuring timely and accurate financial information that is useful to management.
  • Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
  • Supports the department and organization mission.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.
  • This knowledge requires the use of specialized systems and computer software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Specific Essential Functions

 

Financial Analyst I

• Financial system maintenance related to data loading, data grooming, and dictionary upkeep

• Create and distribute monthly, biweekly and daily financial reports to various management teams

• Participate in the setup and creation of the Capital Budget

• Assist in the creation and reconciliation of the operating budget. This includes working to ensure the directives of the financial leadership team are understood and implemented by the organization’s direct operational managers.

• Ensure all active measures and dashboards are evaluated to show timely and accurate data.

• Performs other duties as assigned

Financial Analyst II In addition to the above, the Financial Analyst II performs the following:

• Monthly close analysis and support, including review and evaluation of monthly and year to date variances to the budget

• Support institutional and medical management with ad hoc financial analytics and support

• Participate in the creation of the Capital Budget, including assisting management with the preparation of the requests and ROI analytics for support to senior management

• Quarterly reviews with managers of productivity measures and department financials to ensure financial stewardship across the organization.

Financial Analyst III In addition to the above, the Financial Analyst III performs the following:

• Collaborate and develop action plans with executive leadership on a variety of operational projects

• Provide senior level support to Finance Management

• Leads projects or tasks that arise and utilizes the team to the best of its ability

• Trains new staff as required

• Acts as a resource in the absence of the Finance Supervisor and is able to problem solve and make decisions

• Acts as an expert in their field and internal resource for not only their team but for other areas within Finance

• Performs other duties as assigned

Ensure that all information and services provided are accurate, meet the client’s needs, and are available in a timely manner.

• Adheres to all patient care and department standards, policies and procedures, and meet regulatory requirements on a continued basis.

• For team leaders (Supervisors, Charge Nurse, Lead), establish clear objectives and measure/monitor progress and results related to department/organization goals and initiatives. Utilize industry standards and benchmarks to measure quality and increase customer satisfaction.

 

Hoag Clinic/Department Policies

• Comply with annual health evaluation without a reminder.

• Attend required department and organization meetings.

• Maintain current license, certification, registration, CPR, etc. per organization policy, if required.

• Complete annual “house-wide mandatories” per organization/department requirements.

• Complete competencies per department requirements within expected timeframes.

• Perform job within patient safety standards (e.g. codes, fire, disaster, etc.)

• Perform job in a safe manner to avoid injury to self and others, illnesses, and exposure to blood/body fluids, wear personal protective equipment and uses appropriate safety products.

• Maintain a personal dress standard in keeping with organization/department policy and wear an approved name badge.

• Demonstrate knowledge of and practices organization and department policies and operating procedures.

• Demonstrate knowledge of and practices the standards outlined in Hoag’s Code of conduct as well as additional regulatory or compliance policies applicable to their job responsibilities.

• Take timely action in response to any matter which raises a suspicion that a violation of law or Hoag Policy has occurred.

Job Qualifications (Indicate minimum qualification requirements and preferences that apply to the job.

Education, Training, and Experience

Financial Analyst I Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 1-4 years’ experience as a financial analyst or Health Plan/healthcare experience desirable but not mandatory.

 

Financial Analyst II Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred or other related field.
  • Minimum of 4-8 years’ experience as a financial analyst or Health plan/healthcare experience desirable but not mandatory.

 

Financial Analyst III Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred or other related field.
  • Minimum of 8+ years’ experience as a financial analyst or Hospital/healthcare experience desirable but not mandatory.

 

Financial Analyst I, II, III Preferred:

  • Familiarity with EPSi (decision support tool), Sage ERP and/or Lawson

 

Skills or Other Qualifications Required:

  • Proficiency in SQL, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Good written, oral communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and familiarity with computerized financial systems.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a team.
