Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving will spearhead the development of a new strategic initiative aimed at cultivating, expanding, and stewarding relationships with corporate and foundation donors. This position is responsible for building a sustainable pipeline of support from local, regional, and national partners, ensuring alignment with Hoag’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The Director will develop strategies to increase corporate and foundation engagement, leading efforts to secure significant philanthropic commitments that advance Hoag's programs, research, and capital needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Create and implement a comprehensive corporate and foundation giving strategy that supports the long-term philanthropic goals of Hoag Hospital Foundation including the Boldly Hoag Campaign.
  • Donor Cultivation: Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts and grants from corporate and foundation donors, responsible for building and managing a new portfolio of high-level prospects and ensuring meaningful, long-term relationships.
  • Program Development: Design programs & initiatives to engage partners and foundations, including cause-related marketing, sponsorships, employee engagement programs, and grants.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership, program directors, and medical staff to understand institutional priorities and align donor interests with Hoag’s strategic objectives.
  • Proposal Development: Partner with the communications team on the preparation and submission of compelling grant proposals, sponsorship requests, and partnership agreements, ensuring timely and strategic follow-up.
  • Stewardship: Work with Stewardship team to develop stewardship program to ensure corporate and foundation donors are recognized and informed of the impact of their contributions.
  • Event Sponsorships: Collaborate with the events team to engage corporate donors in Hoag’s signature fundraising and recognition events. Lead efforts to secure corporate sponsorships and other forms of support for events, enhancing Hoag’s visibility and building strong relationships with the business community.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate new relationships with local, regional, and national corporations and foundations while maintaining existing partnerships, ensuring a comprehensive and personalized approach to engagement.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Track, report, and analyze progress on key performance metrics related to corporate and foundation giving. Provide updates to leadership and adjust strategies.
  • Team Leadership: As the program grows, recruit, mentor, and manage staff to support the corporate and foundation giving initiative.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management)
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in fundraising, corporate partnerships, or foundation relations, with a proven track record of securing significant gifts and partnerships
  • Strong understanding of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and foundation grantmaking processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including corporate executives and foundation officers
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • High level of initiative, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Experience in the healthcare or nonprofit sector is preferred
