EPIC IT DIRECTOR AMBULATORY TECHNOLOGY & APPLICATIONS - HMG CLINIC EPIC

The IT Director- Ambulatory Applications & Technology oversees the implementation, support and lifecycle management of all clinical, revenue cycle and managed care applications for Hoag ambulatory and clinic locations and services, including  Epic EMR.

 

This includes responsibility for implementation, build and ongoing optimization and support of all EPIC modules for the Hoag clinics including Epic Ambulatory, Urgent Care, Tapestry, Cadence, Prelude, Resolute PB and Radiant; as well as supporting all connected 3rd party applications and technology.  Oversees Epic product releases including the planning and execution of all Epic upgrades. Has responsibility for the IT components of the EPIC Community Connect and Growth and Expansion programs including integration of newly acquired clinics into Epic.

 

The Director is additionally responsible for managing customer relationships through the delivery of IT services to the Hoag Clinics and is critical in the overall IT- Hoag Clinic planning processes.  The Director embraces a true partnership model and establishes strong relationships across both Hoag Clinic and IT leadership teams. Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments in the Information Technologies (IT) and healthcare field. Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.

 

  • Guide and direct IT Ambulatory teams, including EPIC application analysts, clinical informaticists and principal trainers, among others. Makes hiring decisions and conducts performance management reviews.
  • Responsible for overseeing Epic release management, maintenance and ongoing support.
  • Leads the selection, implementation, support and life cycle management for 3rd party applications.
  • Oversees all aspects of EPIC Ambulatory, Urgent Care, Tapestry and Cadence upgrades and releases to ensure timely delivery to the organization without impacting clinical or administrative operations.
  • Establishes and oversees effective processes to govern Epic enhancement and optimization requests, including prioritization.
  • Ensures appropriate resources are available to respond to customer inquiries/issues. Resolves complex customer issues.  Investigates and resolves customer relationship problems.
  • Participates in the budgeting process and/or manages area budgets. 
  • Manages software licensing for assigned technologies.
  • Ensures teams follow established procedures for management of incidents and tasks per defined SLAs.
  • Delivers a range of IT enabled business change initiatives that allow leaders to meet their strategic obligations.
  • Successfully negotiates complex deals and service level agreements with internal and external vendors and managed services partners.
  • Manages complex vendor relationships to ensure delivery of services to established SLAs
  • Provides technology, applications and service delivery models that are scalable to support Hoag’s growth, visions and goals.
  • Creates and fosters a “customer centric” service in the delivery of application related products and services.
  • Establishes strong relationships across both Hoag Clinic and IT leadership.
  • Ensures projects are delivered according to established timeline and budget and delivers expected results
  • Works closely with IT leadership to develop and plan the ongoing IT strategy for Hoag; keeps abreast of changing market and business needs as they relate to clinical, financial or regulatory items.
  • Partner with external vendors and partners to support custom enhancement and operational needs
  • Travel to Ambulatory Care locations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training and Experience


Required:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science, Business, Healthcare or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in senior IT leadership role
  • 7-10 years’ experience with delivery and support of IT clinical applications in a multi-site, acute care or ambulatory environment.
  • 3+ years’ EPIC IT experience
  • Strong background in IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) process framework.

 

Preferred:

  • One or more EPIC certification

 

Skills or Other Qualifications


Required:

  • Strong working knowledge of EPIC Ambulatory, Urgent Care, MyChart, Tapestry, Cadence, Radiant modules including release management, upgrades and implementation.
  • Ability to describe complex technical concepts in straightforward terms.
  • Strong information technology background including familiarity with the latest technologies and trends.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to effectively utilize project management tools.
  • Excellent resource management including resource projection and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple and complex projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including documentation and presentation skill
  • Participate in 7x24x365 management on call.

 

License and Certifications


Preferred:

  • One or more EPIC certification
