Per Diem, 1st Shift 


Job Summary: 


Functions as an occupational health nurse for the employees of Hoag, performing clinical duties including pre-placement screening, Is t aid .for work related injuries, illness and exposures, performs other preventative care including TB screening and vaccine administration. Works with the on- s ite Nurse Case Managers for assisting with the care and suppotting the needs of the employees/volunteers who have a work related injury/illness or exposure. Assists with depattmental projects e.g. wellness, flu vaccine program, data entry, review of records and notifications. This position requires collaboration with co-workers and a caring and compassionate communication style when dealing with EHS customers . Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Human Resources Department and the organization.




  • Performs annual employee health assessments; PPD placement and reading , vaccine updates, provides education and resources e.g. smoking cessation, wellness programs, EAP, etc.
  • Performs initial assessment for pre-placement including: TB screening , urine drug test, visual acuity,  vital  signs,   review  of  communicable·  diseases,  vaccine  status  and  identifies   potential physical limitations and/or health concerns.
  • Assesses need for medical care of ill employees and takes action based upon identified need.
  • Performs initial assessment of employees who request nursing servic es for a non-work related medical condition. Provides first aide and/or makes appropriate recommendations for follow-up with primary care physician or other clinic / ED.
  • Tailors communication style for the adolescent, adult and geriatric employee/volunteer by facing the person , making eye contact when speaking, giving instructions one at a time and verifies understanding. Performs clear verbal and written communication in a profession al manner. Understands how to deal with all levels of employees.  Treats others with respect and compassion.
  • Clinical Care: Ensure patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills nec essary to provide care appropriate population as outlined in the job description and competencies



In addition to the above, the Employee Health Nurse II (RN) will: SECONDARY RN DUTIES (AS ASSIGNED):


  • Performs    N-95    respirator    fit    testing    for   employees as   needed.                
  • Completes   appropriate documentation  of outcome of fit testing and  maintains screening record for 2  years.
  • Accurately inputs test results into RESPOND software tracking: TB screening,  vaccme administration, N-95  fit testing,  lab titers, etc.
  • Assists with accurately scanning documents  into Chartmaxx for employee  health  files.
  • Identifies   when   ergonomic   workstation   evaluations   are   needed.  Works   with  vendors  and ergonomist  to assure  proper workstations are in place


Education, Training and  Experience


  • Employee Health Nurse I (RN): California Nursing license, (2) years experience in an acute hospital environment
  • Employee Health Nurse II (RN): In addition to the above, the Employee Health Nurse II (RN) will have two (2) to five (5) years recent experience in an acute hospital setting  with  two  (2)  years  experience in Employee/Occupational health. Knowledge  of  California  Worker's  Compensation  law and case management. Knowledge of ergonomics and infection control as it  relates  to  hospital employees.


  • Employee Health Nurse I (RN): I year experience in hospital Employee Health or occupational health setting, knowledge of California Worker's Compensation law and case management. Knowledge of ergonomics and infection control as it relates to hospital employees.  Knowledge  of California  Labor Code, CAL-OSHA,  OSHA Log.

  • Employee  Health  Nurse II (RN):   Bachelors  degree  in  nursing (BSN).


Skills or Other Qualifications

Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, organizational ability, safety measures, ability to follow instructions, maintains confidentiality,  strong  interpersonal  skills.  Basic computer skills knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Outlook. Must display a  high  level  of customer service at all times. Ability  to work cooperatively  and collaboratively with other members of  the EHS/HR team and willingness to assist all members of the team to accomplish the best employee experience.

 Preferred:Typing speed of 40wpm. Able to identify human behaviors which result in positive health outcomes. Bilingual  in Spanish.


License  and Certifications

Required:   Employee Health Nurse I  (RN): Registered  Nurse (RN) with current California  license and current  BLS certificate.

Preferred:   Employee Health Nurse I  (RN): COHN-COHN-S  certification.

Preferred:  Employee Health Nurse II (RN): COHN-COHN-S certification
