Job Description:

The EEG Technologist is accountable for follow through of all Neurodiagnostic testing, ensuring patient flow and continuum of care of patients for Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, Hoag Hospital Irvine and their affiliates (the “Organization”). The EEG Technologist Performs electroencephalography, evoked potential and nerve conduction responses with demonstration of competency in neurological diagnostic testing with neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patient age groups.

 

The EEG Technologist displays and practices a work-style reflecting the mission, vision and values of the Neuro Diagnostic Lab and Epilepsy Center, as well as the Organization. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, including the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Obtain and record patient identification, medical history or test results and explain testing procedures.
  • Attach electrodes to patient's head to obtain brain activity readings.
  • Operate equipment to record electrical activity of the brain readings.
  • Monitor patient respiration, heart and brain activity during procedure.
  • Perform additional Neurodiagnostic testing procedures in the in the outpatient and inpatient setting including Evoked Potentials and Nerve Conduction studies to assess the functional integrity of the peripheral and/or central nervous system on patients of varying ages and medical conditions.
  • Prepare readings for interpretation by a physician.
  • Review, edit and archive long term monitoring data per department policy.
  • File reports, order supplies and maintain equipment.
  • Position may require travel between various Hoag locations and its affiliates.
  • Position may require participation in department on-call program. On-call employees are required to respond to calls within 15 minutes, troubleshoot the problem and provide services off-site as needed and be available to provide services on-site as needed within 1 hour of being called to respond.
  • Position may require covering various shifts as needed.  This includes but is not limited to 1230pm-9pm

Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, including the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides daily supervision of the EEG team and technical support staff, coordinates patient and team schedules, delegate assignments, supervises and trains staff, and performs complex electro-Neurodiagnostics procedures to ensure the quality of patient care.
  • Act as an EEG resource for all staff and Organization departments.
  •  Assures annual competencies are completed for staff.
  • Able to help trouble shoot technical issues with EEG technologists, EMU technologists and nursing staff.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • BLS Certified
  • Graduate from a Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program OR currently enrolled in an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program
  • Minimum 800 documented clinical hours completed through an accredited program.  In lieu of 800 documented clinical hours, individual must have minimum 1 year experience in EEG field or 3+ years’ experience as active EEG Tech.
  • Board eligible, has passed part 1 written exam and is eligible for part 2 to complete registry OR will become board eligible by passing part 1 written exam within 6 months of hire (or first available exam date if after 6 months). 
  • Registered (registry eligible and attempt within 6 months of hire, or first available exam date if after 6 months.   Pass within 1 year of hire by the American Board of EEG Technologists (ABRET)
  • In lieu of graduate from NDT program, individual must have 3+ years’ experience in EEG or 5+ years’ experience as EEG Tech
  • Current California Driver's License
  • Excellent communication skills; customer focused; excellent attention to detail; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

 

Job Preferences:

  • EKG experience or education
  • Graduate from a Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program
  • Completed part 1 written ABRET board exam
  • Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates.
