Job Description:

The Director Ambulatory Surgery Cemter (Orthopedic Surgery Center) will provide leadership, operational and fiscal management for HOI ambulatory surgery center. Oversee the provision of services from vendor contracts. Maintain positive staff and physician relations in order to achieve results. Maintain high customer satisfaction. Assure compliance with State and Federal regulatory and legal entities related to the ASC industry. May prepare and present to the Governing Board Director of Nursing for the center if RN licensed.


Essential Functions:

The Director works closely with Enterprise leadership to uphold HOI Mission, Vision and Values. Oversee the day to day operations and business needs of the ASC. Manage the month to month needs of the center and project future state for clinical and business needs as changes arise within HOI Enterprise, ASC or healthcare industry Work closely with the department leads to maintain high standards of care and business practices within the departments they are responsible for. Support and mentor department leads and staff on as needed basis for any new developments within the center or the ASC industry. Ensure all regulatory exercises are completed on time. Manage the fiscal needs of the ASC, ensuring strong communication to those who need to know any financial impacts to the center. This includes communication with physicians and supervisors around cost and reimbursement, to allow them to make value driven decisions for care. Encourage a work environment aware of waste and cost, and understands the need for continuous improvement. Ensure ASC quality measures are monitored, reported and improved upon as needed. Ensure all areas of ASC management are functional and deliver results: Quality & Safety, Financial, Legal/regulatory, Human resources, Regulatory. Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients, and the center is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag. Perform other duties as assigned.


Education, Training and Experience

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. RN licensed in the State of CA. BSN or Associate’s degree with a minimum of 5 years experience in peri operative nursing, at least 2 of those years in ambulatory surgery center. Experience in all phases of peri operative nursing – [Pre op, OR, PACU]. At least 2 years experience supervising teams. BLS certification
Preferred: At least 2 years experience as an ASC Director or Manager

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required: Knowledge of principles and methods involved in education, orientation, evaluation and supervision. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability and willingness to lead by example and think differently. Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, decision making, strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, concepts of business growth, marketing and communication. Must exhibit effective negotiation, coaching, and conceptual thinking skills. Possesses analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data relevant to patient care and personnel problems. Able to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills necessary to interact with patients, families, physicians and co-workers. Willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Required: CASC – or completed within 24 months of hire
