DIRECTOR COMMUNICATIONS - FUND DEVELOPMENT

Under supervision of the Executive Director, Donor Experience, the Director of Communications develops, implements and manages impactful internal and external communications in support of Hoag Hospital Foundation.

 

The Director, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Donor Experience, manages an internal team of writers and communication specialists and external partners, including graphic designers, photographers, videographers, proofers, printers, programmers, web developers and PR/brand agencies, to determine and ensure best practices for all marketing communications efforts.

 

The Director maintains excellent relationships with Foundation development and donor relations professionals as well as Hoag clinical and department leadership to direct and implement proactive communications to promote both Hoag and the Foundation to key donors, volunteer leaders and other constituents.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Assist the Executive Director of Donor Experience in developing and implementing communications plans for strategic initiatives in philanthropy.
  • Manage and provide operational oversight of the Communications team
  • Oversee and assign work to freelance writers, graphic designers, photographers and videographers, ensuring that the necessary information is gathered, meetings are held, vetting takes place, writing and design is completed, so that high-quality projects are delivered in an efficient and timely way.
  • Serve as lead editor and communications expert, managing and giving direction to messaging, design, and production personnel, including staff writers, as well as all contractors, reviewing all output, quality control, making necessary edits and providing clear direction. 
  • Manage, develop and implement printed and digital publications and marketing materials, proposals, website content, social media, videos, digital communications strategies, Campaign messaging and other communications as needed.
  • In consultation with fundraisers and Executive Director of Donor Experience, oversee creation of proposals and other solicitation materials to support major, principal and transformative gift conversations and solicitations.
  • In collaboration with Hoag’s Corporate Communications team and PR agencies, serves as primary point of contact for media outlets, directing proactive media relation activities to positively position the Foundation in the community and promote our fund-raising activities.
  • Directs Foundation advertising placements as needed.

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

Required:

 

  • Bachelor Degree required; minimum of eight years marketing and corporate communications experience; experience in health care, higher education or other large, complex organizations; minimum 5 years’ managerial experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and InDesign
