Cancer Community Program Coordinator - Oncology Administration

The Cancer Community Coordinator provides a wide range of coordination and support services for the Cancer Institute assigned Navigation Services and corresponding Programmatic Community Support. The coordinator responsibilities include, but not limited to: tumor board preparation, quality/process improvement support, community event support, advocacy group support, data entry, collection and coordination, power point presentation development, excel spreadsheet development. The coordinator will assist and support with education materials, educational events and scheduling of patients and meetings/events. The coordinator achieves definite goals within projected timelines set by the Administrative Leadership of the Hoag Family Cancer Institute.

 

Cancer Community Programs Coordinator

  • Assists in the preparation of tumor board cases, distributes agendas and calendars as needed.
  • Coordinates with nurse navigators in the development, implementation and execution of educational events, community outreach early detection screenings and tumor type month awareness events.
  • Coordinate with community partners to promote educational & support services events.
  • Participates in events, program meetings and workshops for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to sustain and improve services.
  • Interacts with patient with the highest level of customer care and coordinates resources, educational materials and referral to services with the navigator’s guidance.
  • Works with Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Physician Outreach teams to distribute tumor type specific information to promote services to ensure patient/physician participation.
  • Assists with class equipment and supplies are available, rooms are ready and appropriate prior to classes and meetings.
  • Evaluates classes/support group participation satisfaction for the purposes of determining the success of the program and modifying offerings to needs and interest of patients.
  • Maintains and completes data entry for nurse navigators in appropriate patient data base.
  • Develops PowerPoint presentations, excel sheets, word and other documents as required by the nurse navigators and social workers.
  • Interact with and collaborate with community programs team to educate physicians and staff regarding program element and implementation of program.
  • Assists patients and their caregivers with travel and accommodation planning by providing information on air transportation, ground transportation, Hoag preferred hotel rates and guidance on vicinity related questions.
  • Provides coverage of other support staff within the Cancer Institute Oncology group as needed.
  • Assists with scheduling, answering phones, and other front office duties as necessary to assure efficient patient care.
  • Exhibits strong organizational abilities, follow-up, and follow through skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training and Experience

Required:

Cancer Community Programs Coordinator

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in healthcare-related field OR
  • In lieu of degree, minimum of one year experience in a health administrative or secretarial capacity role for a hospital or medical office.

 

Preferred:

  • Formal or equivalent higher education and or certificate in office or medical terminology

 

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required:

Cancer Community Programs Coordinator

  • Ability to perform secretarial duties, answering phones and interact professionally with various multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.

 

License and Certifications

Required:

  • Current CA driver’s license required for local travel

 

Preferred:

  • Medical Terminology certificate
