Job Description:

The Corporate Compliance Specialist is an individual contributor that supports the implementation of the Corporate Compliance Program for Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and its affiliated companies (collectively “Hoag”). The Corporate Compliance Specialist is a key corporate compliance role providing onsite support of compliance and privacy matters for various divisions and locations of Hoag. The Corporate Compliance Specialist will have a working knowledge of compliance and privacy practices. This position works closely with the Compliance & Privacy Manager. Under general supervision, the Corporate Compliance Specialist supports the operations of the Corporate Compliance department which includes special projects, assessments and assisting with daily operations.


Essential Functions

  • Serves as a Corporate Compliance liaison for Hoag.
  • Investigates compliance and privacy-related matters as assigned which includes conducting interviews with clinical and non-clinical staff and gathers facts.
  • Documents findings and makes recommendations to address compliance and privacy matters.
  • Responds to compliance and privacy-related issues reported via the Compliance hotline, MIDAS, and any other reporting mechanism.
  • Determines if breach notification is required for privacy incidents.
  • Conducts privacy and compliance audits as assigned.
  • Trains staff on compliance and privacy policies and procedures.
  • Provides recommendations for corrective action plans for compliance and privacy incidents.
  • Performs periodic reminders of staff responsibilities to following compliant work practices.
  • Actively participates in rounding on an ongoing basis and communicates trends and areas for improvement.
  • Provides input in the development of the annual compliance work plan.
  • Partners effectively with leaders to develop, implement, and monitor key compliance functions and risk areas in accordance with OIG guidance for compliance programs.
  • Performs day-to-day activities of the Corporate Compliance department.
  • Works collaboratively with departments and builds strong working relationships.
  • Presents status report of assigned tasks to Compliance & Privacy Manager on a regular basis.
  • Position may require travel between various Hoag locations and its affiliates.
  • Position may require participating in meetings outside of normal business hours including occasional evenings and/or weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare related field; relevant work experience may be substituted for a healthcare degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant compliance, privacy, legal and/or risk management experience in healthcare.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare compliance and privacy laws, rules and regulations.


  • Compliance and/or privacy experience in a hospital setting or healthcare provider setting.


Skills or Other Qualifications


  • Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and proficiently.
  • High level of integrity and trust.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance and privacy standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Advanced level skill in Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with others at all levels across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing situations and efficiently alternate focus between tasks.
  • Project management skills.


License and Certifications


  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) and/or other compliance or privacy-related certification.
