The Labor & Delivery Nurse (RN) utilizes research and evidence-based outcomes to meet patient care needs in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act.


Hoag's Labor & Delivery nurses provide direct nursing care in support of the family-centered maternity care model, mission, and philosophy. Hoag L&D nurses must demonstrate competency in hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Essential functions include:


Essential Functions

  • Cares for high-risk antepartum patients with multiple high-risk diagnoses.
  • Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
  • Supports the mission of the Patient Care Services Division.
  • Participates in the continuous quality improvement process.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures, and practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  • Active, Current California RN License
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP Certifications
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring every other year
  • Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control.
  • If a BSN has not been obtained upon hire then the Clinical Nurse I must begin the BSN program within one year of the hire date and obtain their BSN within two years of starting the program
  • 6 months of Delivery Room (LDR) experience
  • Ability to work nights (3rd shift)

Job Preferences

  • BSN
  • A minimum of one (1) year of RN experience in a Delivery Room
