As part of the Sub Intensive Care Unit at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you’ll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, supporting the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Sub ICU Clinical Nurse means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, incorporating Perioperative care modalities, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us.

Inside Hoag’s Sub Intensive Care Unit
Our Sub ICU features 15 beds and a nurse to patient ratio of 1:3. As a designated medical step-down unit, your primary care focus will be with ventilator and BiPAP patients, PCI and sepsis patients, patients requiring select cardiac, heparin and insulin infusions, and a variety of medical/surgical patients.

Other duties may include:

  • The ability to care for patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring including the ability to identify, assess, and intervene with changes in patient condition
  • Providing care for patients undergoing cardiovascular bypass procedures, including  interventional procedures such as PTCA, stent placement, etc.
  • Provding care for patients with central venous catheters including multilumen, dialysis, PICC, etc.
  • Providing care for patients with chest tubes and temporary or permanent pacemakers
  • Providing care for and monitoring patients receiving sedation
  • Providing care for patients experiencing complex cardiac dysrhythmias, chest pain, or induced Hypothermia

Required
* Active, current California RN License
* BLS and ACLS certifications
* Minimum of one (1) year current experience in an acute care facility
* Successful completion of Critical Care Course is required prior to assuming care of patients in the CCU
* Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN). If you haven't obtained a BSN upon hire, you must begin a BSN program within one year of the hire date and obtain your BSN within two years of starting the program. 

Preferred
* BSN
* Critical Care nursing experience
* Additional skills and knowledge of various equipment and software may be required
