The Radiology Nurse provides quality nursing care to all patients in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act and professional regulatory standards to inpatients and outpatients of the Radiology Department across the entire lifespan. The goal of the Radiology Nurse is to use the nursing process to provide the highest quality nursing care possible. Skills used in his/her job performance include the nursing process, education, communication, leadership, collaboration/teamwork, and performance improvement. The Radiology Nurse is required to possess critical thinking skills, professionalism, and mature judgment while utilizing the nursing process to meet patient care needs safely and efficiently while maintaining a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures. The nurse without exception maintains patient privacy, dignity, and safety. Radiology nurses are responsible to provide emergency care specific to Radiology procedures/interventions during all hours of the day or night. Areas where the nurse may function are as follows: general diagnostic, interventional (angio), nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging 

 

Education, Training, or Experience

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current RN licensure, or interim permit in the State of California required. BLS, ACLS or EP is required prior to clinical rotation. PALS must be obtained with in one year of hire. Critical care experience, interventional Radiology, or special procedures experience preferred.

 

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of age of population served, and additional skills and knowledge of equipment may be required for hire into some patient care departments. Radiology nurses spend the majority of their work hours standing and walking, with significant time wearing radiation protective gear and clothing.
