CLINICAL NURSE I - HEART CATHERIZATION LAB

The Cardiac Cath Lab Clinical Nurse projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the Heart & Vascular Institute mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance. Provides quality nursing care to all patients in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act and professional regulatory standards. Utilizes the nursing process, based on evidence based outcomes, to meet patient care needs. The patient population served is the adult and geriatric patient with cardiac diagnoses. Patients cared for may also include other medical diagnoses.

In addition, the Cardiac Cath Lab Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, evaluation and Nursing care for patients undergoing invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures for cardiac catheterization procedures, percutaneous coronary interventions and electrophysiology studies and ablations, endovascular procedures In addition the Registered Nurse may care for patients requiring the following interventions, endotracheal intubation, ventilatory support, invasive pressure monitoring, cardioversions, ventricular pacing, intra-aortic balloon pumping, insertion of transvenous pacing catheters. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment. Demonstrates leadership skills by directing personnel and establishing collegial relationships with peers and other departments. Demonstrates competence and sensitivity in caring for multicultural patient/families by adapting the plan of care based on cultural needs identified. Follows evidence based clinical standards when formulating the patient plan of care/problem list. Demonstrates ability to work in a multicultural team environment and is respectful of the cultural diversity of the work force and the patients we serve. The Cardiac Cath Lab Staff Nurse/Clinical Nurse performs duties necessary for cardiac catheterization procedures, percutaneous coronary interventions and electrophysiology studies and ablations, endovascular procedures, TEES and tilt table testing. In addition the registered nurse may care for patients requiring the following interventions, endotracheal intubation, ventilator support, invasive pressure monitoring, thrombolytic therapy, cardioversions, ventricular pacing, intra-aortic balloon pumping, and insertion of transvenous pacing catheters. The Staff Nurse/Clinical Nurse practices at a technical and professional level that requires independent judgment and minimal supervision. She/he assumes responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment. Demonstrates leadership skills by directing personnel and establishing collegial relationships with peers and other departments. Demonstrates competence and sensitivity in caring for multicultural patient/families by adapting the plan of care based on cultural needs identified. Follows evidence based clinical standards when formulating the patient plan of care/problem list.

Job Requirements:

• Active, Current California RN License.
• 2-4 years of Critical Care, Emergency Department or Cath Lab RN experience.
• ACLS and BLS Certifications.
• Stand-by Call
• Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.
• If BSN has not been obtained upon hire then the Clinical Nurse I must begin the BSN program within one year of the hire date and obtain their BSN within two years of starting the program.
