CLINICAL NURSE I - 5W MEDICAL/SURGICAL

Salary Range: $43.4100 - $67.2500 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

As part of the 5W team at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach,The Clinical Nurse I – MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Other duties may include:  

  • Assessing and documenting a complete physical assessment, nursing interventions, and teaching and discharge needs for patients assigned to each shift, utilizing documentation guidelines, Standards of Care and Pathway goals. 
  • Communicating changes in the patient's condition to the Charge Nurse/Supervisor and the physician directing care, as well as pertinent information at shift report using the patient Plan of Care (POC). 
  • Providing continuity of care through the implementation and utilization of the POC. 
  • Responding to emergency situations in a timeframe appropriate to the needs of each patient. 
  • Administering medications and intravenous therapy with the ability to assess the appropriate indication dosing and effects of the medication administered. 
  • Assessing the educational ability/level for the patient, incorporating available educational material into patient/significant other teaching and documenting understanding in the patient record.

Required 

  • Active California RN License - Current and in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 
  • ACLS certification.
  • Successful completion of an EKG course or equivalent. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If you haven't obtained a BSN upon hire, you will be asked to begin a BSN program within one year of the hire date and obtain your BSN within two years of starting the program. 
  • Clinical Nurse I’s at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program.

    BSN preferred.
