The Cardiac Ancillary Technician (CAT) maintains constant monitoring of electrocardiogram and SPO2 for designated patients in the Holding Room, recognizing changes in the electrocardiogram and informing RN of changes. The CAT is responsible for creating a Patient-Centered Care environment, as well as providing safe and smooth daily operations of the Holding Room. The CAT works as part of the patient care team to maintain organization, answering telephones and patient call lights promptly, greeting and assisting patients, hospital visitors, and members of the healthcare team.


The CAT will provide support in both the clerical and clinical areas of the Holding Room.  Secretarial duties may include but are not limited to scheduling duties, preparing patient charts, verifying necessary documents are present.  Clinical duties may include but are not limited to patient transport, assisting patients with ambulation for toileting needs, preparing and delivering appropriate nourishment, facilitating communication between caregivers, families, patients, and physicians.


Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Successful completion of basic arrhythmia course and ECG test
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Epic experience preferred


Licensure and Certifications:

  • ECG Certification
  • BLS
