Job Description:

The Telemetry Technician/CC maintains constant monitoring of electrocardiogram for designated patients throughout the entire shift, recognizing changes in electrocardiogram and informing RN of changes. In addition, the Telemetry Technician/CC works as part of the patient care delivery team to maintain organization within the unit, including the processing of orders for tests, procedures, and special requests.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately enter patient charges within the hospital timelines
  • Maintains legible documents and documentation
  • Manage individual scope of work in a timely manner without direct instruction
  • Establishes and maintains professional work relationship with departments and inter department personnel.
  • Independently identifies cardiac rhythm and documents ECG measurements per unit standard.
  • Promotes patient safety by ensuring monitor alarms are kept on with the appropriate alarm limits.
  • Immediately identifies abnormal ECG rhythms and changes in rhythms and validates findings with RN.
  • Maintains and checks monitoring equipment daily. Reports repairs as needed.
  • Responsible for checking charts and the thinning of charts.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of forms to expedite patient care.
  • Organizes and incorporates multiple tasks and skills with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Routinely checks and orders supplies, following-up to ensure stock is available to meet the needs of the unit and informing appropriate personnel if items are unattainable.
  • Tailors communication style to meet the needs of the population served (adult through geriatric patient).
  • Answers the telephone/call light promptly and courteously, relaying messages in a timely manner to the appropriate caregiver.
  • Helps coordinate unit activities during an emergency situation.
  • Cooperates with other members of the patient care team in providing charts and other materials of assistance.
  • Consistently communicates and collaborates with the patient care team for patient needs, location and any issues, prioritizing the needs.
  • Notifies nurses in a timely manner of patients going off unit.
  • Ensures appropriate follow-up and resolution of issues and care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Completion of basic arrhythmia course and/or successfully passed ECG test.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.

 

Job Preferences:

  • Recent experience as a Telemetry Technician/CC preferably in an acute healthcare environment.
  • Completion of a Clerical Coordinator course including medical terminology.
