RX REFILL TECH II - CLINIC - CLINIC PHARMACY SERVICES

Salary Range: $22.95 - $35.27 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Functioning as a pharmacy technician II, this individual is part of the Centralized Prescription Renewal Clinic (RxRefill Clinic) in handling all incoming prescription refill requests and some medication prior authorization requests following established medication protocols and approved guidelines for the medical group providers. 

The team is based in a business center setting.  There is no pharmacy at this site and handling of drugs is not within the scope of this role.

  • Utilize authorized physician protocol to process prescription refill requests in a timely manner and document into EHR system.
  • Handle intake of refill requests using established scripts, protocols, and service processes.
  • Responsible for processing and follow up of some prior authorization requests for medical group providers
  • Attempt to solve medication issues, including prior authorization, sending messages to providers and teams via EHR system for outstanding office visits, lab work, or contacting providers/clinics directly for questions.
  • Apply knowledge/skills to complex activities.  Approach situations with a problem-solving attitude while being detail oriented
  • Understand and use proper procedures to resolve problems, escalate issues, and achieve objectives in a productive and cooperative manner.
  • Provide timely feedback about processes to improve provider and patient experiences and satisfaction.
  • Remain available to staff to answer questions directly in-person, via telephone, email, or instant message.
  • Make recommendations on efficiencies, improvements, or enhancement to existing workflow and process
  • Must know how to prioritize tasks assigned by Manager with the intent to meet all deadlines.
  • Remain flexible with the needs of the business

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Working skills in general mathematics and familiar with medications and medical terminology

 

Preferred:

  • 1 year experience in third party prescription program claims adjudication
  • 1 year experience working with prior authorizations
  • Experience working in a high volume and fast paced pharmacy environment
  • Insurance benefit knowledge and understanding
  • EPIC or other EMR use or knowledge

 

License Required:

 

California Board of Pharmacy Technician License
