Job Description:

The Orthopedic Instrument Coordinator will work under the direction of the SPD/Materials Manager. Coordinator will work closely with surgical and scheduling team to coordinate instruments and trays required for all cases. Excellent critical thinking and communication skills are required. Must be highly organized and detail oriented for managing surgical case inventory and planning.

 

Essential Functions

  • Able to articulate changes to processes and techniques that may affect workflow and other departments
  • Will primarily work from present and future surgical schedules to plan and process instrument and tray requests
  • Will be responsible for the picking of instruments and trays for all surgical cases
  • Communication amongst surgical team members (nurses and surgical techs) regarding needs and specific surgeon preferences will be done consistently and done in a timely manner
  • Will use SPM as a means for tracking instruments and trays to specific areas within the department
  • Will assist in sterile processing, materials management and operating rooms as assigned
  • Must have a ‘can do’ approach to the work environment and willingness to teach and share knowledge
  • Clinical Care: Ensure patient care is delivered for each surgical encounter. Must work within the guidelines in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assist surgeons in planning appropriate care for their patient populations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

Required: A minimum of 4 years as a surgical technician or instrument technician. Strong orthopedic background.

Preferred: Certification in surgical technology or as an instrument technician.
