The Manager of Nursing oversees the overall operations of the NICU in Newport Beach (21 beds and expanding!) + Irvine Special Care Nursery (3 beds and expanding!)
This includes responsibility for patient care and safety, fiscal performance, staff performance, and productivity. It also includes assisting in managing quality improvement or safety initiatives, providing staff education, and ensuring staff follow policy and regulatory standards.
The role develops and modifies procedures to run unit optimally.
Responsible for continual improvement of patient care and prevention of harm.
Focuses on continually enhancing patient outcomes and improving care.
May provide direct patient care as needed.
The Manager of Nursing serves as a leader and mentor to staff and promotes professional growth and development.
This role creates a collaborative environment conducive to sharing ideas and opinions.
In conjunction with the Department Director, the Manager of Nursing develops the vision and goals for the unit, cascades those goals to staff, and assists the department in accomplishing them.
As many areas operate 24/7 this role requires meetings and rounding outside of normal business hours including evenings/nights and/or weekends.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Nursing Managers at Magnet Facilities only are required to have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
3 years of full time clinical experience, including one year in a Regional or Community NICU.
Minimum of 2 years leadership experience in the NICU.
License Required
Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
Certifications Required
BLS issued from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Additionally, department specific requirements are as follows:
Women’s COE: ACLS and NRP
NCC certification in specialty
Position Reports to: Director of Nursing NICU & Special Care Nursery
24-hour responsibility for:
1. Direct supervision of personnel who provide patient care
2. Daily coordination of and quality of clinical nursing patients in the NICU

Hoag may share your immunization or tuberculosis (TB) screening test records with the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), a statewide, secure and confidential database of patient immunization information. The CAIR is used by health care professionals,
agencies, and schools to keep track of all shots and TB tests you take, and can provide proof about immunizations needed to start child care, school, or a new job. If you do not want your immunization or TB records to be shared with other registry
users, please fax or email the “Decline or Start Sharing/Immunization Information Request Form,” available on the CAIR website at

13. Your California Privacy Rights

each year, and is not required to respond to requests made by means other than through the above email address.
