Job Description:

The Director of Physician Outreach is responsible for developing a deep and sustainable relationship between Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) with the physicians of the Hoag community.  They are an integral leader in HOI’s outreach efforts into new communities, as well as the implementation of an ambulatory services strategy. Serving as a critical link between the hospital and its affiliates, the Director of Physician Outreach is responsible for developing new relationships and strengthening existing relationships with physicians as it relates to the Continuum of Care model. The Director of Physician Outreach markets and promotes HOI services and programs to physicians, physician medical groups, and other related referral sources in Orange County. This position serves as a liaison to referring physicians and their office staff, educating and supporting physicians to access the Continuum of Care model working to expand the physician’s knowledge of Organization services, while improving overall satisfaction to gain exposure for the program and physicians leading the program.


Essential functions:


Business Development – Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) Enterprise

  • Executes physician outreach efforts for all HOI Enterprise and Programs while supporting other services as needed and according to the organizational strategic plan.
  • Implements sales tracking and reporting protocols for all product lines. Develops relationships with referral sources to obtain information relative to strengths and weaknesses of services/providers, therefore supporting volume of referrals. Prepares monthly and quarterly reports and reviews such reports with manager to identify any issues that need to be addressed with specialty or primary care providers/departments.
  • Coordinates and consults with Hoag Physician Outreach Specialists.
  • Collaborates with marketing/corporate communications to promote new programs and services.


Customer Service/Patient Experience

  • Implements inpatient and outpatient referral monitoring for the hospital.
  • Identify and address barriers for patient referrals and work with program directors to improve processes and patient experience.  Follow up with physician practices to ensure satisfaction and secure future patient referrals.
  • Facilitate miscellaneous physician requests in order to ensure satisfaction.


Market Data Analysis

  • Monitor and analyze market data for service lines.  Make recommendations and coordinate interventions with physicians, medical groups, managers, administrators, and staff.
  • Leverage referral analytics to track and capture market share.
  • Analyze market data to identify opportunities and reduce market leakage.
  • Creates activity log in CRM tool to track physician outreach efforts.





Education, Training and Experience



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care, Business Administration or related field required. 
  • Five years minimum sales experience in the healthcare industry


  • Marketing experience
