Chief Financial Officer, Hoag Clinic

The Chief Financial Officer of the Hoag Clinic, serves as a member of the clinic's senior leadership team and is responsible for the development of a successful financial strategy for all Clinic operations which includes independent physician groups, physician management services, concierge medical services and other ambulatory medical services and programs. This role provides organizational oversight of all financial planning, operating strategies, and financial outcomes and has primary responsibility for Clinic business development and growth. Serves as the CFO of the Hoag Clinic corporation with specific responsibility regarding DMHC and other regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

  • Summarizes and forecasts business activities and financial positions in areas of income, expenses, and earnings.
  • Oversight of capitation and risk contracts and performance
  • Develops and implements short and long-term financial planning
  • Directs preparation of operational and capital budgets and provides ongoing monitoring, communication and leadership to assure success.
  • In conjunction with Hoag Clinic Controller and Hoag Enterprise Finance team assists in the preparation of operational and capital budgets and provides ongoing monitoring, communication and leadership to assure success.
  • Oversight and coordination of professional billing, accounts receivable and functions including supervisory, and non-supervisory staff.
  • Ongoing analysis of revenue generation, income lifecycles, reserves, and expenditures
  • Identifies strategic and innovative business development opportunities to enhance revenue and growth; ensures transactions are effectively and efficiently secured.
  • Serves as key financial spokesperson for Clinic operations.


Education, Training and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business.
  • Minimum of 8 years senior financial leadership experience in large physician group or health plan managing financial operations.
  • Proven track record developing and monitoring capital and operational budgets in support of strategic goals and operational efficiency.
  • Experience working within a highly complex, matrixed organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with practice organizations, management of healthcare providers and ambulatory care operations.



  • Background operating in an accountable care or value-based reimbursement environment preferred.
  • Financial leadership experience in capitation and other risk-based economic models of physician compensation.
  • CPA and/or MBA.

  • Strong skills in business development and negotiation.
  • Ability to successfully perform within metrics driven health care delivery system.
  • Technical knowledge of financial principles related to healthcare finance and physician reimbursement in a multispecialty environment
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
  • Leadership role in financial decision-making that affects the Clinic and provides strategic financial input to senior management.


Position Reports to: Directly reports to SVP and Hoag CFO - financial reporting and process direction.

Indirectly reports to Clinic CEO; takes strategic and operating direction from and accountable to the Clinic CEO and Clinic Board of Directors.
