CLERICAL COORDINATOR - IRVINE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

As the Clerical Coordinator for the ED at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you’ll maintain clerical organization within the unit, and help the team create a Patient Centered Care environment. Being a Hoag Clerical Coordinator means having strong customer service and multi-tasking skills, and the professionalism needed to handle sensitive patient information. Your work will allow the department to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us. 

Inside Hoag’s Emergency Department 

As a base station in the Orange County Emergency Medical Services System, Hoag’s Emergency Department provides high-quality and compassionate emergency medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients range across all ages and acuities, from non-urgent to emergent. You will be responsible for taking and recording clinical measures, collecting specimens, providing transportation as necessary, and maintaining equipment and supplies. 

Other duties may include: 

  • Maintaining pertinent patient information on various computer systems, including the Kardex supply chain management system (SCM). 

  • Monitoring and processing electronic orders; expediting STAT orders and notifying nurses as needed. 

  • Routinely checking and ordering supplies, following-up to ensure stock is available to meet the needs of the unit and informing appropriate personnel if items are unattainable. 

  • Completing shift inventory of all ECG transceivers/tele-boxes, and census sheets each night at midnight. 

  • Answering the telephone/call light promptly and courteously, relaying messages in a timely manner to the appropriate care giver. 

  • Coordinating unit activities during an emergency situation. 

  • Notifying nurses when physicians are making rounds, and of patients going off unit. 

  • Having an advanced understanding of SCM features, and the ability to assist clinicians that are unfamiliar with the system, navigate it proficiently.

Required 

  • Previous hospital experience or documented course for Clerical Coordinators, which includes knowledge of medical terminology. 

  • Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, and knowledge of proper body mechanics. 

Preferred  

  • High school graduate. 

  • Recent employment as a Clerical Coordinator. 

  • Knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation.
